Apply NowWhy Choose ESA Letter US?
We only do letters. No registrations, no certificates, no ID cards, no vests, no training programs and no shop, so there is nothing to upsell you and nothing to distract from getting the documentation right.
Full refund if not approved
If the clinician decides an emotional support animal isn't right for you, we refund your letter fee in full.
24 to 48 hour delivery*
In 45 states and Washington, DC your signed PDF typically arrives within 24 to 48 hours of your evaluation. We never promise an instant letter. An instant letter means nobody evaluated you, and that is exactly what landlords reject.
Your diagnosis is never shared
Your clinical information stays between you and your clinician. The letter your landlord reads states a disability-related need and nothing more. We never sell data and we never list you in any database.
Licensed nationwide, matched to your state
We match you with a professional licensed in the state where you live, because a letter signed in the wrong state is not worth the PDF it is printed on. All 50 states and DC are covered.
A letter your landlord can check
Every letter shows the clinician's name, license type, license number and state, so a leasing office can confirm the license on the state board's website instead of guessing.
*Arkansas, California, Iowa, Louisiana and Montana require a 30-day client–provider relationship before an ESA letter can be issued.

How an ESA Letter Helps Renters
My building charged $45 a month in pet rent and wanted a $400 deposit for a twelve-pound rescue. I did the evaluation on a Tuesday evening, had the letter Wednesday, and the office removed both charges by the end of the week.
The new complex had a breed restriction that ruled out my shepherd mix, and I had genuinely started looking at rehoming. The clinician spent twenty-five minutes with me and was straight about what the letter does and does not do. We signed the lease with him on it.
I live in California, so I knew about the thirty-day wait before I started and nobody pretended otherwise. The HOA asked for verification, the clinician's office answered them the same day, and my cat is on the letter by name.
Campus housing said no pets, full stop. I sent my letter to the housing office with an accommodation request, met once with disability services, and two weeks later my cat moved into the dorm with me.
Our condo association allows one dog under 40 pounds, and our lab is well over that. I submitted the letter with a reasonable accommodation request, the board asked one question about the clinician's license, and they approved it at the next meeting.
My dog is trained to interrupt my panic attacks, and flying used to mean leaving him at home. The PSD letter documented why I need him, I filled out the DOT form before the trip, and the airline checked us in without a problem.

Frequently Asked Questions About ESA Letters
Straight answers about ESA letters online, housing rights and what the letter does not do. See all questions.
How quickly can I get an ESA letter online?
In 45 states and Washington, DC your signed PDF typically arrives within 24 to 48 hours of your evaluation. Arkansas, California, Iowa, Louisiana and Montana require a 30-day client–provider relationship first, so the letter is issued after day 30.
What should an ESA letter include?
It should come from a mental health professional licensed in your state who evaluated you, on their letterhead with their license number. It names you and your animal, states a disability-related need without your diagnosis, and is signed and dated.
Does my emotional support animal need training or certification?
No. An ESA needs no training, and no registration, certificate or ID card has any legal standing in the United States. Only a letter from a licensed clinician counts.
Will I still have to pay a pet deposit or pet rent?
It depends on your state and your landlord. Ask for pet deposits, pet rent and pet fees to be waived in your accommodation request. Since HUD's May 2026 change, federal enforcement no longer presumes this for untrained animals, though state law may give you more protection. You are still responsible for any actual damage the animal causes.
Can my landlord ask for my diagnosis?
No. A landlord may ask for reliable documentation of a disability-related need and may verify your clinician's license, but may not require your diagnosis or medical records.
What if my landlord refuses to accept my ESA letter?
Most rejections come from a misunderstanding. Point the property manager to the license details on your letter so they can confirm it with the state board, and ask for any refusal in writing. Since HUD's May 2026 change, landlords have more room to refuse untrained ESAs, so your state's fair housing law matters too.
Do ESA letters expire?
Federal law sets no expiry date, but most landlords expect a letter dated within the last twelve months, so we recommend renewing each year. A renewal is $79.
