Do I Need ESA Registration or Certification? No
There is no federal ESA registry, and certificates, ID cards and vests carry no legal standing. What actually counts is a letter from a licensed clinician.
Do I Need ESA Registration or Certification?
No. There is no official registry, database or certification body for emotional support animals anywhere in United States federal law, and no housing provider is required to recognise one. The websites selling registration numbers, wallet cards, embroidered vests and framed certificates are selling merchandise, not legal status. Some of them are careful to describe it that way in the fine print; many are not.
The only documentation that carries weight is a letter from a licensed mental health professional who has actually evaluated you. That is why we sell nothing else. If a service offers you an ESA number within minutes and never speaks to you, what you are buying is a receipt. That is also why letters bought that way are the ones landlords reject, and why we screen you first rather than after you have paid.
